Art Appreciation - Winter 2024 Course - 6 classes (Activity # 1315)
Description
Instructor Sharon McNeil. I invite you to join me for a journey back in time to the city of Florence circa 1450 to 1600. We’ll explore this extraordinary time of change through its art and artists. Why did the Renaissance arrive in Italy and in Florence first? What factors lead to these changes? Who were the important players in the story? The Patrons? The artists? What can we learn about the people of that time and ourselves through the art they created? These are the questions we'll grapple with in this course “Art Appreciation: through the Lens of Florence Italy.” It will be a feast for the eyes. We'll take a deep dive into the paintings of the artists you know and love. Artists like Botticelli, Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. We’ll explore some artists you may not have heard of like Andrea del Sarto and Pontormo. Learn about the artists, their innovations, and most of all, what you can learn from them as an artist yourself. You may not think you’re an artist. That’s okay. We are all creative and born with the ability to learn. These artists can be some of your best teachers, but you have to learn to see and this a wonderful place to start. Entire course $90, individual classes $15 Supplies: 8x5.5 mixed media sketch/drawing book. Water soluble graphite pencil. Gaphite pencils HB and B. Watercolor brush, size 6 or 8. Enclosed pencil sharpener. Eraser. Ruler?
