You will learn how to easily identify and appreciate the four styles of churches found throughout the Christian world from the Romanesque, the Gothic, the Renaissance, and the Baroque. You’ll take a journey through centuries and across the breadth of Germany and visit some of Germany’s cultural treasures in a PowerPoint presentation packed full of pictures of some of the most iconic churches in the world. These four architectural styles don’t just represent differing building styles, but also mirror the theological, historical, and intellectual outlooks of their times. To start with, we’ll examine the history of Christian churches from the earlier times to give you an understanding of the evolution of church architecture. By the end of this two-class course you’ll amaze your friends by knowing the difference between a church, a chapel, a cathedral and a basilica and you’ll know at first glance which architectural style you're looking at.
